Gheorghe Petrașcu
Painter of dense, jewel-like matter — interiors, still lifes and Venetian views.
Petrașcu built up his canvases with thick, glowing layers of paint, giving even modest interiors and still lifes a precious, almost mineral richness. He painted Venice, Vitré and Târgoviște, and represented Romania at the 1924 Venice Biennale. He is considered one of the great colourists of Romanian modernism.
