Ștefan Luchian
'The painter of flowers' — a post-impressionist who painted through paralysis.
Luchian studied in Bucharest, Munich and Paris and was a founder of the Ileana society and the 'Artistic Youth' salon. Struck by multiple sclerosis, he kept painting with the brush strapped to his hand. His anemones, still lifes and portraits of humble people are among the most beloved images in Romanian art.
